First Annual "Bryan Bowl" Nets $1,544 for BV Food Bank

The first-ever in district competition between Rudder and Bryan High football teams raked in $1,544 for a very worthy cause: The Brazos Valley Food Bank. Students and staff celebrated the cause of feeding the hungry with "Dollar Night" at Merrill Green stadium Nov. 7, securing general admission tickets with all proceeds going to the food bank.

Officials from Bryan ISD joined the Food Bank's Executive Director Theresa Mangapora Nov. 20 to present a check and tour the facility, which feeds more than 6 million pounds of food to hungry families annually. Volunteers, a staple of the food bank's labor force, give enough hours to account for seven full-time employees.

Food Bank staff and volunteers stuff backpacks to provide weekend feeding for students, families and the elderly, which means sorting foods for variety and nutrition along with ensuring that every dollar stretches to its maximum potential.

Bryan ISD proudly supports the Brazos Valley Food Bank and appreciates their partnership in helping feed hungry families throughout the region.
